The Kasanka Trust has always relied heavily of the work of volunteers and we remain extremely grateful for their support.

Tourism Manager

Time frame: Short term position (annually)
Start Date: Mid September to Mid December 

In the next 5 years the Trust intends to significantly increase its impact and sustainability by scaling up tourism both in quantity and quality. To this effect, the Trust is looking for a professional part-time tourism manager to help us increase the tourism quality during bat season.

Required Qualifications and Experience: Higher education degree or diploma in travel and tourism or similar subjects (or experience that implies the same level of education or knowledge); At least 5 years work experience in hotel/lodge management; Good knowledge of managing staff, guests and activities simultaneously; IT software: Proficiency with the mainstream software of Microsoft Office; Language: Excellent written and spoken English, spoken Bemba advantageous. 

Optional but Desired Qualifications and Experience: Practical experience in managing a hotel/lodge in remote African areas; Be out-going with great interpersonal skills; Have strong organisational and planning skills; Have an eye for detail and creativity, for creating a warm and welcoming lodge environment; Be resourceful and adaptable in this remote destination

Important Additional Requirements: Zambia work permit or Residency; Willingness to temporarily live in a remote area with limited access to amenities.

Tourism Supervisor

Time frame: Full time
Start Date: Immediately 

The Trust is looking for a full-time tourism supervisor, based at the Trust headquarters in the Kasanka National Park. The supervisor would report to the Trust’s General Manager and/or the Tourism Manager depending on the season.

Required Qualifications and Experience: Grade 12 education or higher; At least 5 years work experience as a guide or in middle management in the hotel/lodge/tourism industry; Experience in supervising junior staff, stocks, guests and activities simultaneously; IT software: Some understanding of the mainstream software of Microsoft Office and willingness to learn; Language: Excellent written and spoken English; spoken Bemba advantageous.

Optional but Desired Qualifications and Experience: Have strong organisational and planning skills; Have an eye for creating a warm and welcoming lodge environment; Be resourceful and adaptable for this remote destination.

Important Additional Requirements: Willingness to live in a remote area with limited access to amenities; Willingness to work in a team and to carry out supporting duties outside of the normal job description as and when requested by management to ensure effective operations; Zambian Citizenship or Residency.

Conservation Officer 

Time frame: Full time
Start Date: Immediately 

Along the Kasanka National Park and the Lavushi Manda National Park, KTL's objective is to implement the establishment and management of several Community Forest Areas (CFA), CFA Management Groups and a system of market based incentive and appropriate technology to stimulate securing the biodiversity and returning the wildlife while improving community livelihoods. The Trust is looking for two full-time conservation officers, one based in Chitambo District around Kasanka National Park, and one based in Mpumba District to the east of Lavushi Manda National Park. The officers will report to the Trust’s Community Outreach Manager and the General Manager. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: At least 5 years working as a community outreach or liaison facilitator or officer or similar and preferably in the context of natural resources management; At least a Bachelor Degree, in the field of social or natural science; Proficiency with the mainstream software of Microsoft Office; Excellent written and spoken English and Bemba; Motorcycle Driving license.

Optional but Desired Qualifications and Experience: Prior knowledge and good understanding of the COMACO market-based approach; Prior knowledge and understanding of the establishment of Community Forest Areas in Zambia

Important Additional Requirements: Willingness to live in a remote area in sometimes uncomfortable living and working conditions; Willingness to make substantial travel with a motorcycle to the communities living in the Chitambo or Mpumba Districts.

Communications, Marketing and Fundraising Officer

Time frame: Three years
Start Date: Immediately

This is a full-time three-year position based in Lusaka, with regular trips to the headquarters in Kasanka National Park. The CM & F Officer would report to the Trust’s General Manager and work closely with the other senior management staff to handle the communication (newsletter, web site, events, social media), fund raising (mostly CSR, events, proposal tracking) and coordination of tour operators/travel agents. Required Qualifications and Experience: Degree: A bachelor level education with preference for a degree in marketing, advertising,  communications or similar; Experience: Solid experience in fundraising and grant writing with demonstrated prior success in fundraising for an organisation similar to KTL. Demonstrate significant experience in communication with modern tools; IT and software: Proficient in all mainstream software as well as desktop publishing and website-creation software and social media; Skills: Excellent English writing skills (need to submit sample of document written). 

Optional but Desired Qualifications and Experience: Candidate based in Lusaka preferable; Outgoing personality, prepared to travel extensively, etc.; Knowledge of Zambia, parks, other languages, network of potential financiers, etc.; Good contacts with funders, government departments and other NGOs.

Important Additional Requirements: Willingness to travel frequently and work in a remote area with less than optimal living and working conditions; Prepared to work closely with the senior management staff in Kasanka National Park and the KTL Board of Trustees.

Accounts Assistant

Time frame: Two years
Start Date: Immediately

The Trust is looking for an Accounts Assistant to be based in the park and work directly with the Administration Manager and the Accounts firm in Lusaka. For more information on the specific ToR, please contact hr@kasankanationalpark.com.

Required Qualifications and Experience: Tertiary level qualification in accounting; 3+ years’ experience in an accounts assistant role or similar; Computer literate (including Pastel or similar accounting software); 1-2 years’ experience in Pastel; Excellent English communication skills. 

Optional but Desired Qualifications and Experience: Experience working for non-profit companies and on donor-funded projects.

Volunteer Application Form

Before applying, it's important to note that volunteers will have to cover the cost of their living whilst at Kasanka. They will have to make their own way to Lusaka, but from there Kasanka can assist in organising their transport to the national park. All volunteer experiences are unique and details will be arranged with Kasanka management prior to commencement.
