Today Kasanka Trust was honoured to host a meeting with the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Rodney Sikumba and Minister for Labour and Social Security, Hon. Brenda Tambatamba. The meeting was also attended by Tourism Permanent Secretary, Evans Muhanga, and the CEO of Zambia Tourism Agency, Chavunga Lungu. We also welcomed Andrew Chomba, Acting Director of DNPW, together with their support staff and representatives.

Hon. Rodney Sikumba, Minister for Tourism

The meeting addressed new initiatives to bring about a change in infrastructure and development that will allow the ‘Northern Circuit’ of Zambia to be opened up to future tourism opportunities, employment and to promote further opportunities for investment in the area and in conservation projects.

The meeting addressed some concerns regarding encroachment within the national park and how exploitative organisation such as industrial scale agriculture and mining can have a devastating effect on national parks in general and the Greater Kasanka Landscape, including its communities, as a key example.

Additionally, the Ministers discussed opportunities to strengthen relationships with government agencies, such as DNPW, and to encourage a holistic approach to management of national parks, GMAs and public spaces.

Kasanka Trust extends its thanks to the Ministers, DNPW, their teams and to the tourism agency for taking the time to visit the park and opened an invitation for the Ministers and the President to come and view one of the world’s most spectacular events – the great bat migration!
